2016 San Dimas Stage Race, April 1, 2, and 3, Preview

San Dimas, California (March 29, 2016) - The dates for the San Dimas Stage Race (SDSR) are almost here. The SDSR is a premier race which attracts top flight riders and teams in all categories and provides great entertainment for spectators of all ages. Now in its 17th year, the race is hosted by Southern California Velo (SC Velo), presented by GMR.bike, supported by terrific sponsors, and staffed by dedicated volunteers led by Race Director Al Wiscovitch.

The race consists of three exciting stages in three great venues:

  • A challenging Time Trial up Glendora Mountain Road (GMR) on Friday, April 1st, sponsored by Main Street Garage.
  • A grueling classic Road Race around Bonelli Park on Saturday, April 2nd, sponsored by San Dimas Community Hospital.
  • A fast and furious Criterium around downtown San Dimas on Sunday, April 3rd, sponsored by Incycle bike stores and Cannondale bikes.

All three stages offer great opportunities for riders to excel and for cycling fans to see exciting pro and amateur racing up close. If you can only attend one day, come on Sunday and enjoy our Expo along with the race. There are no admission fees for watching the races.

On-Line Registration is complete with 800 riders signed up. Many world class professional teams and riders are on the roster. Talented riders from around the country and beyond have signed up in large numbers in all categories from Pro to Juniors. All of the fields are strong and the riders are anxious to kick off their racing seasons with exceptional performances.

Late and In-Person Registration: Several categories did not sell out, so there is still an opportunity to compete in the race. A $20 fee will be applied to all late registrations.Email late registration may be done Tuesday March 29th through Thursday March 31st by contacting Cheyenne Wiscovitch at sdsrreg@gmail.com. In person late registration will be accepted on a first come-first served basis on Thursday, March 31st, between 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at the San Dimas Incycle cycle shop located at 501 W. Arrow Hwy. In person late registration can also be done on Friday, April 1st, in the registration area of stage 1, the Glendora Mountain Road Time Trial, up to 30 minutes before the first start time of the category being signed up for. Information about open categories and start times will be posted here as it becomes available.

Welcome to 2016 and 17th edition of the San Dimas Stage Race!

Here are the following changes for the 2016 race:

  • This year we are proud to announce the Juniors 15-16 and 17-18 will be USA Cycling National ID races and part of the Junior Devo Race Series. This will be limited to categories I, II, III and IV.
  • We are bringing back Masters 35+, 45+, and 55+. They will each be scored seperately and will be part of the So. Cal. Cup Series.
  • We are bringing back the Womens III and IV fields
  • We will have the Womens Pro I, II, and III will be part of the So. Cal. Cup Series.
  • We are sorry to say, but we have removed the Mens Category V from the race this year but hope to bring it back in the future.

Set with the San Gabriel Mountains as a backdrop, we believe the San Dimas Stage Race will deliver the finest 3 day stage race. It is challenging, demanding, affordable and fun!

Our vision has always been to bring the finest cycling into our wonderful community and to showcase and enjoy the skills and professionalism of these great athletes! From weekend warriors to full time professionals, children’s’ community race to pro women, we hope that this race will inspire everyone that is involved from athletes, spectators, volunteers and sponsors! All of us at SDSR would like to see local school involvement, helping teach children the important skills and safety needed to ride a bike and encourage parents to get them involved with the junior programs we offer as a club. Each year, we like to choose a different charity within the community to donate to!

Race day starts on April 1st, 2016 with Stage 1. Stage 2 and 3 follow on the 2nd and 3rd. *
